Arts Alive is pleased to announce that we are accepting submissions for our next gallery show of 2025, “Heavy Metal.” This show is open to any member of the public and all mediums are accepted.
Artists can interpret each gallery theme in any way they see fit. All ages are welcome to submit artwork. Enter up to 3 pieces per show at $5 per piece. Pieces may be submitted at the Tibbits Administration Office (93 W Chicago St. Coldwater, MI) Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Pieces must be ready to display or hang. PLEASE USE HANGING WIRE because tooth hangers or anything other than hanging wire is not compatible with our system. Sculptures and all other mediums accepted. Please do not submit artwork that contains nudity. Arts Alive has the right to refuse entries. The submission deadline for this show is September 1, 2025 at 5pm and the show will hang September 2 – October 20, 2025 in the Tibbits Opera House Art Gallery.
While visiting the theatre, patrons have the opportunity to select their favorite piece during each exhibition. A People’s Choice Award is given to the top 3 artists from each exhibit. Artists are also able to sell their work with a small commission going to Arts Alive. The gallery is open one hour prior to events and by appointment Mon-Fri 9-5 by calling 517-278-6029. There is no charge to view the gallery.

I want to introduce the Joe Stempien Memorial Community Leadership Scholarship. This cause honors the cherished memory of Joe Stempien, who touched the lives of many with his generosity, kindness, dedication, and unwavering passion for community involvement.
Joe was not only a beloved friend and colleague but also an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His commitment to the community and his desire to make a positive impact on the world through his involvement were truly remarkable. To perpetuate Joe’s legacy, we have established this scholarship fund to provide financial assistance to deserving students pursuing higher education who display similar characteristics, such as excellent citizenship, strong work ethic, and positive community involvement.
The Joe Stempien Memorial Community Leadership Scholarship Fund aims to support individuals who share Joe’s dedication to community involvement. For thirty-nine years Rick taught English and coached cross country and track, retiring in June 2017 from Columbus North High School (IN) where he had been coaching, teaching, and serving as English department chair.
Rick is a nationally recognized coach of multiple state championship teams. As a 10-time Indiana Coach of the Year and a 4-time nominee for National Coach of the Year, he was inducted into the Indiana Track and Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2004. For his achievements as an educator, he was inducted into the BCSC Education Hall of Fame in 2014. Rick and his wife Amy, a retired special education teacher, have five children and three grandchildren.
Rick published his first book called Move Your Chair, a Guide to Every Day Excellence in 2015, his second Excellence 366, in 2021, and is currently continuing to make a difference in people’s professional and personal lives. Through his company “Every Day Excellence” he has delivered keynote presentations, led workshops, and coached individuals in 12 states. He is certified in Myers-Briggs training, DISC personality styles, Emotional Intelligence, Leadership, and Frame of Mind coaching.
